What does it mean?

Historically, Private Networks, also known as Wide Area Networks (WAN), required businesses to invest heavily in expensive leased lines and Frame Relay circuits to connect multi-site offices together. At each site, there needed to be separate equipment and overall circuit costs and hardware requirements required businesses to invest costly set-up fees and a lock in to an expensive long-term circuit contract. This led to the development of Virtual Private Networks providing a much lower cost solution.

Private Wide Area Network (PWAN) services offer great value for customers connecting multiple sites over DSL or other broadband services without the need to manage individual VPNs at each site and without the need to buy expensive equipment at each site as the security and firewall protection is provided through a central managed site within the Twang network.
